Email List Management is the process of gathering,
organizing and distributing of email addresses of people. Email marketing
usually involves the creation, filtering, and use of many types of lists. In
addition to the email distribution lists, some lists identify people or
companies that should not receive email messages. Some lists can be used to
help define what email messages people should receive (such as lists of people
who purchased specific types of products).
List Types - Many types of lists - customer, prospect, unsubscribe (never-mail). List Sources - Who has names you can obtain, barter, or use. Common sources include magazines, associations, trade shows, other companies, and list brokers. List Uses - How the names on the list are allowed to be used. Direct email, number of times the list can be used, what content can be sent (content may need to be approved). List Formats - How is the list stored and what data is associated with each contact record. Common list formats include spreadsheets, delimited text files (CSV), and databases. List Seeding - Adding names you know to verify how lists are used. When the seed people receive emails, they alert you that the list has been used. List Scrubbing - Keeping information valid by removing (scrubbing) bad and old data.
